Any one of us could have written the closing script for the Oscar Grant tragedy. It is Einstein's definition of insanity personified. After the act (I have my opinion, the video of the shooting is posted below, you be the judge) comes the outrage as noted here then comes the petitions for the head of the token of the day as posted here by Color of Change.org which is swiftly followed by appeasement as noted here with the cop in question arrested and soon to be charged with murder. Wonderful, justice is served then comes the peace. Wrong, not wonderful. The dynamic hasn't changed since Emmett Till and won't change now. The tail will wag the dog to the next story where activist groups will yet again justify their existence, pat each other on the back when the convictions come down and hold a fund raiser. In the meanwhile, disproportionate numbers of Black and Latino minorities are in jail, undereducated, under-employed and discriminated against by a system that has learned to game the public at large into being satisfied with the small wins in order to forget about larger problems.
